BUCKHANNON, WV- St. Joseph’s Hospital was recently recertified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the West Virginia State Trauma and Emergency Medical System. This accreditation refers to the standard of care that a patient can expect to receive in the emergency department.
Level IV trauma centers are usually located in rural areas and are a critical link in supplementing care within the regional or larger trauma system. They provide initial evaluation,assessment and advanced life support before transferring a patient to a higher level trauma system.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Emergency Department is staffed with emergency-trained physicians from WVU,through a partnership with the West Virginia University’s Department of Emergency Medicine.
“This designation ensures the continued quality of trauma care and the trust the West Virginia State Trauma System has placed in St. Joseph’s Hospital,” said Robert Blake,MD,Medical Director of St. Joseph’s Hospital Emergency Department.
